Description

As a Charge Nurse in the Oncology Unit, I am responsible for overseeing patient care, managing nursing staff, and ensuring the smooth operation of the unit. My primary role involves supervising and providing direct nursing care to oncology patients, including administering chemotherapy, managing symptoms, and ensuring pain relief and palliative care. I closely monitor patients for adverse reactions and collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans. Educating patients and their families about cancer treatments, side effects, and self-care strategies is also a key aspect of my role.

In addition to patient care, I lead and mentor the nursing team, delegating tasks, managing schedules, and providing support to ensure high-quality care. I conduct performance evaluations, facilitate team communication, and address any challenges within the unit. Ensuring compliance with hospital policies, infection control measures, and oncology nursing protocols is crucial to my responsibilities. I also oversee the safe handling and administration of chemotherapy, maintaining strict adherence to safety guidelines to protect both patients and staff.

As part of my commitment to professional development, I stay updated on advancements in oncology nursing, participate in continuing education programs, and provide training to the nursing team on new treatments and best practices. My role requires strong leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, allowing me to handle emergencies, make informed decisions, and support my team in delivering compassionate and effective oncology care.
