Substation Testing and Commissioning Engineer (HV/MV/LV) (400/132/33/11 KV)
Job Description
1. Role Purpose
Responsible for testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting protection, control, and automation systems in HV/MV electrical substations to ensure safe energization and reliable operation as per client and utility standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
3. Protection Relay Testing: Perform primary and secondary injection testing on numerical and electromechanical relays for overcurrent, earth fault, differential, distance, and transformer protection.
4. Commissioning: Execute FAT, SAT, and site acceptance testing for substations up to 400kV. Verify CT/VT ratios, polarity, insulation resistance, and continuity.
5. Settings Implementation: Configure and apply MEW/client-approved relay settings in devices from Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE, SEL.
6. System Validation: Conduct protection scheme testing, interlock checks, SCADA point-to-point verification, and end-to-end testing.
7. Documentation: Prepare test reports, commissioning procedures, as-built drawings, and as-left settings. Maintain records per IEC 61850 and client standards.
8. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues in protection, control, and metering circuits during testing and energization.
9. Coordination: Liaise with client, consultant, utility authority like MEW, and contractors to align on testing schedules and technical approvals.
10. Technical Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of power system protection principles, fault analysis, and relay coordination.
- Hands-on experience with relay test kits: Omicron CMC, Doble F6150, Megger SVERKER.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, and substation automation systems.
- Understanding of HV/MV equipment: transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, circuit breakers, CTs, VTs.
- Ability to read and interpret SLDs, protection schematics, and wiring diagrams.
4. Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical/Electrical Power Engineering.
- Experience: 6–10 years in substation testing and commissioning for utilities or EPC projects.
- Certifications: Preferred – IEC 61850, HV safety certification, OEM relay training.
- Compliance: Knowledge of MEW, SEC, DEWA, or equivalent utility standards.
5. Key Attributes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills under field conditions.
- Strict adherence to electrical safety procedures and LOTO protocols.
- Good communication for client reporting and technical discussions.
- Willingness to work on site, in shifts, and handle
