Asphalt, Asphalt Mix Design, Bitumen /Asphalt Aggregate, Concrete, Soil Testing Lab Technician Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on asphalt mixtures, aggregates and bitumen in accordance with ASTM/
AASHTO standards.
• Prepare, handle and store samples correctly to preserve test integrity and traceability.
• Operate, and maintain laboratory equipment used in asphalt and materials testing.
• Interpret test data and prepare accurate, well-presented technical reports.
• Maintain complete and accurate test documentation and laboratory records.
• Enter and manage data using laboratory management systems.
• Coordinate effectively with team members.

Requirements

• Proven hands-on experience performing laboratory tests on asphalt mixtures, aggregates and bitumen.
• Strong working knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures.
• Strong analytical skills for interpreting test data and producing technical reports.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and consistent adherence to established procedures.
• Proficient computer skills for data entry and use of laboratory management systems.
• Technical diploma or certificate in civil engineering, materials science or a related field preferred.
• Experience in asphalt plants, road construction projects and quality assurance / quality control
laboratories.
• Familiarity with Qatari construction specifications

Job Title: QA/QC – Construction Materials Testing Laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025)

Key responsibilities
• Maintain the quality manual, procedures and records in line with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and accreditation-body requirements.
• Prepare for and close out assessments and surveillance visits.
• Plan and run the internal audit
• Verify test methods, maintain measurement uncertainty budgets and run quality-control checks. The engineer must be able to audit, verify and troubleshoot the laboratory's core test methods, not only administer the system around them (soil, concrete, cement, steel, asphalt and bitumen).
• Manage the equipment register and calibration schedule
• Plan proficiency-testing participation
• Lead nonconformance handling, root-cause analysis and corrective actions; manage client complaints.
• Review test reports before release.
• Maintain the staff competence matrix and authorize technicians for each test method; deliver training for on site/in lab employees
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in a construction materials testing laboratory/plants/ construction companies, including at least 1 year in a quality role under ISO/IEC 17025.
• Took part in at least one full accreditation or re-accreditation cycle.
• ISO/IEC 17025:2017 internal auditor training (lead assessor preferred).
• Sound knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, BS EN and ISO test standards for soils, aggregates, concrete, cement, asphalt and steel.
• Working knowledge of measurement uncertainty and proficiency-testing evaluation.
• Strong attention to detail, independent judgement and clear written English; Arabic an advantage.
